A message from this week's host, Paul Hudson --

TAC SNL blog post for 04/17

It should not come as any surprise that all TAC members are invited to a Zoom Virtual Open Mic this next Saturday, April 17, 2021. However, this activity has undergone a ‘paradigm shift’ away from its original home on the old TAC forum to a new home on blog pages dedicated to each night. A quick review of some TAC forum activity informs me that some of us (maybe all of us, to some extent) are a bit lost in the internet ether and working to find our way. If you have found your way to this post, welcome to the new home of Saturday Night Live Virtual Open Mic. Feel free to bookmark this blog location and share it with other TAC members so they can join up.

Other bits that should come as no surprise include: Open Mic participation is free, all are welcome to lurk, listen, and perform as you wish with no expectation other than the mutual respect for which the TAC community is renowned. Acting as a Host, volunteers such as myself will pay careful attention to new faces and do our best to accommodate new members who are inclined to perform. We also look forward to the continuing progress made by fellow TAC regulars who perform here regularly: it inspires us, keeps us grounded, and entertains. Hard to beat and a bargain at the price!

It seems that the weekly role of the Zoom Host has evolved to conjure up a theme for the session, which is the primary focus of this post. I must admit to mixed feelings about this, since I have never been good at anticipating and tailoring my music preparation to a week or less after a theme is announced. That said, I would ask each performer to introduce whatever song they wish to play with a short answer to the question: “Why this song?” Obviously, there are no wrong answers, but I am hoping we can all get to know each other a bit better with that blank filled in.

A simple bit of housekeeping involves the other Host function: figuring out how to send each performer a link to their video and chat file data after the session is over. To make this happen, we need your new TAC screen name (which should lead to only one person), ideally displayed on your Zoom screen. If you choose not to display this information, at least leave a post on this blog that will help us connect your performance with a working email address. None of us has the time or skills to find the unique ‘David’ or ‘Michelle’ in the thousands of TAC members, OK?

Cheers!

  1. Hey Rick, I have a link to your performance of "Seven Spanish Angels" but I cannot send it to you without an email address. Please reply if you are interested. If any TACer who knows Rick will relay the message, I would appreciate it. Paul (paul0r).
